Court Leader Auditions This closes 30 November. Anyone can apply, even if your character is not yet complete. The spirit of the forest appears before you, standing in all his majesty. The brown deer is tall and regal with his cream horns, brown pelt and moss growing on his back like a cape. Some of the moss drapes down his sides just like a cape would. He poses this question to you: "Your mate is mortally ill. Nothing you have done and can do will heal him or her and you are getting quite desperate. This creature is the love of your life and has supported you through all your ups and downs. This creature is your number one fan.
There is a healer who has created a potion to heal your mate made with rare herbs. The healer is charging a high price for the potion, more than what the potion is worth. Rather than charging a meal for a month or requesting the collection of the rare herbs used to make the potion, she is charging the life force of a sentient creature.
You now have to decide whether to sacrifice yourself, sacrifice another or steal the potion and you need to give me a reason for your choice.
Remember the rules of the forest in your choices and reasons. Should you steal the potion you will be punished, should you sacrifice another you will also be punished." Respond to this question and give a reason for your response in the form of a roleplay post. Character Name: Court Applying for: Response: (Remember this must be in the form of a roleplay post, play your character arriving in the Court's area, seeing the spirit and responding)

Character Name: Acera Deamon
Court Applying for: Light Court
Response: Acera lighted upon the grassy terrain of the Dark Court. Flapping her expansive wings to slow her decent, her gaze fixated on the ground, her tail touched the flora covered earth first and coiled slightly around where the drake would land. Her four clawed feet touching ground, Acera landed with her typical silence, only having slightly disturbed the landscape with the gusts of wind produced with her flight. The fantastical creature had yet to even notice the old spirit that stood before her. Upon raising her head to see the deer spirit, the young draken started with surprise, her yet folded wings collapsed quickly into their resting form producing clinks and clashes when scales met scales. The forest spirit posed it's question to the azure-eyed femme.
Acera laughed. The scaled lizard laughed a laugh filled with both joy and grief at the thought presented by the spirit. "The answer is as clear as the sky." Cried the bronze drake, throwing back her head with laughter that peeled across the landscape. Calming herself, the fae gazed stony eyed at the deer, declaring strongly without a hint of hesitation, "I would do nothing. I would let them die."
"My teacher taught me many things in the sort amount of time I stayed with him but, by far, the most important thing he taught me was about self-sacrifice." Acera lifted her regard from the spirit of the forest to gaze up at the blue sky, continuing her tale, "I cannot give my life for another, no matter how much they meant to me, no matter how much it may pain me to see them pass and know that I could have saved them. For in the end, if I gave my life to save them they would be the one suffering in the end. They would be racked with the knowledge that I died to save them, that they would never see me again. And that pain may one day lead them to a path far worse than this. They may seek to raise me from the dead and as such, commit the ultimate sin." Searching the skies, Acera watched as the clouds passed, her mind remembering her past, "Self-sacrifice is the easy way out, after all your not hurting anyone." Returning her stoic gaze to spirit of the forest, the orange-bronze fae continued her speech, putting great emphasis on her following words, "But that is a lie, for you are hurting others when you commit self-sacrifice. You are hurting those who you created a connection with, those who have considered you friend and family. You are hurting everyone whose lives you have ever touched with your actions. It may not be a physical pain but it is a pain far greater, it is a mental pain, a psychological scar that may never heal. No, I shan't ever give my life for another."
Acera sighed, her vision now lowered to peer at the terrain, "I cannot take another's life either. Though it would be a simple matter with my power, the scar it would leave would be too great. As when I take their life, I would be placing a psychological scar on their friends and family. And those friends and family members, amongst them may be someone who will feel the need to seek revenge. They may come to take my life in return for taking the life of their companion. I would not wish for such a thing to happen." Acera now searched the flora, her mind wandering to all the things she had seen and experienced in her long life, "And my beloved as well, may feel great pain from the fact as well. That I had committed a great sin just so that they may live. That the life they now have is one fueled by the death of another. No, it would pain them greatly and I as well. I shan't commit such an action."
Acera returned her navy blue gaze to the old spirit, preparing herself, she declared her final reason, "I will not steal either. Though no loss of life may happen with this action, it may still cause pain. Despite the price the healer asks, they have likely worked hard to find the ingredients for the potion and to prepare and provide me with one. To take from them after all they had likely gone through to provide me with a cure would be a harmful endeavor. My beloved would likely also feel a great pain for living due to a sin. If my beloved were to live, I would rather tell them that I had committed no wrong to allow them to live than tell them that I had sinned so that I could fulfill my selfish desire." Acera now raised her head, her gaze finally coming to meet that of the deer's. Announcing her final words, the young fae hesitated not once in her proclamation, "And my desire is indeed that. It is selfish. I wish to revive them because it hurts me to think that they would pass not that it would be a great boon to the world that they live. And so, I would not steal, I would not kill another nor would I take my own life. That is my answer and it will not change."

Post by ♔ Seleukoen Suibhne on Nov 6, 2017 5:00:43 GMT
Character Name: Seleukoen Court Applying for: Winter Response: Seleukoen had recently encountered the spirit not too long ago, and thus was not surprised to see him again so soon. The lion’s countenance was one of neutrality, and the only real outward expression of his mood was a single flick of his tasseled tail. On one hand, Sel considered it a great honor to be visited and talked to by the mystical deer on more than one occasion. Not many could say that they had had that experience on their resumes. However, on the other hand, the lion was charged with a great task before. Telling others about the history of the world was nothing to take light of, and that weight now rested heavily on the feline’s shoulders. A strange sense of urgency had welled up deep within Seleukoen he had never experienced before, and he had to still himself before thinking about a future plan of action. This second meeting between the two of them certainly was for a pertinent reason Seleukoen deduced, so he had to be prepared for anything to happen.
When the question about his hypothetic mate was posed to him, the alabaster male went silent a moment. A wave of what could only be described as empathy washed over him. Not only that, but a heavy sigh purged itself from his being, along with a slow shake of his thick mane. Finally the words trickled out of the lion’s mouth, assurance interlaced in every single syllable, but clearly thoughts were forming in the lion’s mind simultaneously. In his short three years of life, Seleukoen had never experienced the sensation that was true, intimate love for someone else. But the thought of them being wiped away from him under such extenuating circumstances...that was a lot for him to bear. His family was already torn away from him, now his mate had to be too? Seleukoen knew that this was merely a test of his decision making, and not at all real, but still. The thought affected him more than it might have others for obvious reasons. How many people could be taken from one person’s life in such tragic ways?
The pallid white carnivore stood tall, and he did not bat an eyelash at his answer however. He knew in his heart that it was the right thing to do, and that there was no other option to pick. “If I had to choose between theft, another’s life sacrificed in exchange, and my own, the answer is crystal clear,” Seleukoen stated firmly. “Stealing the potion, even from an extortionist such as that one, disgusts my moral compass to its core. No, that is not the answer. Before this point, my job was to protect and serve the ones that were under my care and tutelage. Lives were on the line, and I was their guardian. Sacrificing another for my own gain is against everything I believe in. The only remaining choice is the best one. I would give my life for my mate’s any day, any hour.” Sure, this sounded pretty on paper, and easier in principle rather than practice, but Seleukoen was entirely serious. Anyone could say that they would give their life in exchange for someone else’s, but when it came down to it, would they really? Seleukoen would, and almost actually had to before, in failed defense of his former pride. He was spared somehow, for some reason he did not entirely understand, but knew it would not be in vain. Sel would make sure that he was not living like this for no good reason.
“The truth of the matter is is that 1/1 creatures die eventually. We will all return to the earth from which we came from, and our graves will all look the same,” Seleukoen continued saying. “But if I had the chance to extend my mate’s life, who has given hers for me while she was alive, so be it. It would be an honor to give mine to her, even in death. Her life, and our potential offspring’s lives, would be living examples of our love. And that cost…it is well worth paying it, over and over again. My loyalty lies with the ones I love.” A gentle smile formed on Sel’s lips, and his eyes held a genuine twinkle to them. Everything that the lion felt always showed up in his raspberry colored eyes, and there was no mistaking it.
Thoughts continued to churn in the mind of the lion man, and so more words came from his mouth as well. In all honesty, they probably were coming from deep within his soul also. His words simply could not rest on the surface. “I am not saying that my mate might not experience pain in my absence; that is plausible indeed. But there is good news even after knowing that, believe it or not. She might go on to give to others beyond what she was capable of before. Someone else would be able to see the beauty in her because of what we did together. I can take great happiness in that. Even more so, when all is said and done, there is still more to come of personal sacrifice. When I have given all I can give, she all that she can give, and eternal rest has come over us, we can be together again. Love supersedes even death, and that is what makes it the greatest gift of all. If one action can be the source for so much good, how could anyone dare refuse to give it?” Again the lion shook his head, this time in response to his own question. Someone could not refuse such a sacrifice, if they had a heart at all in their chest.
When Seleukoen first started speaking, he did not realize things would happen how they did. He did not plan on saying some longwinded monologue about a simple question, but he did. It was funny how the world worked out like that sometimes.

Post by ♔ Nocturne on Nov 13, 2017 2:02:45 GMT
Character Name: ♔ Nocturne Court Applying for: Dark Court Response: The waning moon rested solitary in the dark sky, no longer occupying it’s full glory as it had several nights prior, but bold all the same. The stars seemed absent that night, though it was hard to tell from the many plants that would hinder the small creatures view of the dark firmament above. They draped black shadows down upon the earth, opposing the moon’s light. But this was a comforting veil for the fennec fox, who had made a home in the darkness. Even the subdued light of the moon was enough to reflect off his violet irises and light a path for him to follow. This was thanks to his excellent night vision, a common trait for his species, however, something seemed peculiar tonight. He could not shake the feeling that he was being watched. The vulpine raised his head slightly, staring ahead into the darkness as the faint sound of hoofsteps echoed through his ears. Though quiet, it had still caught the canids attention. Squinting his eyes to narrow his view, he could just make out a silhouette in the distance. A black figure amongst the hazy grey began to come into view. The outline of sturdy antlers gave away it was some kind of hart. Curious, Nocturne traveled closer, closing the distance between the two animals. The deer seemed to pose proud and tall. Nox noted his many regal features, such as the majestic cream horns resting upon his crown and cape made of greenery. The fox remained silent, studying the spirit before something clicked. This was no ordinary deer was it? He must have traveled here for a reason, perhaps an important one. His eyes remained fixated on the creature, though they didn’t display too much emotion, he could not hide the little bit of curiosity that gleamed through his expression. His eyes widened slightly as he was spoken to. Listening carefully to the spirit's words, he made sure to note every detail. He sensed these words held some sort of importance, and every little syllable might just hold some sort of key. The fennec became slightly worried at the thought of scenario described to him. His mate mortally ill? He didn’t have a mate, but that wasn’t to say he never would, was this some kind of prediction of future events? Or was he being tested to see how he would react? Once the words concluded with a question, he guessed it was probably the later. The silence reminded him it was his turn to respond, but none of the options presented to him particularly caught his interest. Especially not in the hypothetical scenario. “And why would I associate with a creature such as this speculative healer?” He spat the words out without thoroughly thinking them through first. Catching his impulsive response, the fennec took a deep breath in and out, before continuing his explanation. “It is true, the easiest way to deal with that sort of situation would be to give the healer what they want, however, I do not feel any of the actions you stated would be a noble response. I do not believe the hypothetical healer should have the right to charge a life force of any sentient beings, whether that be my own or someone else's.” He paused momentarily, thinking about what actions he would take in such a scenario. His hypothetical mate was described in the perfect way to hit his emotions. Someone who supported him through all his ups and downs? His number one fan? He would be obligated to take some sort of action to save someone like that, but he would not want this healer to be involved anyway, anyhow. “This healer thinks they are so high and mighty that they can charge someone's life just because they know how to make a potion? That almost makes me want to say I would steal it from them, but to be honest I probably wouldn’t. I’m also not the kind to sit idly by while my mate suffers.
Let’s be honest here, that healer probably isn’t as great and powerful as they say they are. I’m sure I could hunt down the potion elsewhere, and if not, who’s to say I couldn’t do make it myself?”He paused again, thinking about his answer, but he was pretty content with it.
“I understand my actions would not come without risks. I could very easily end up losing my mate or put myself in danger trying to collect such herbs myself. However, such risks are a part of life, and without taking them no one would accomplish anything, so this is the answer I'm sticking to."
